Critical Challenges Across the Curriculum
Winner of the 1997 Innovative Teaching of the Year Award from the BC Social Studies Teachers' Association, this series focuses on infusing critical thinking into the teaching of subject matter at various grade levels. Each book contains challenges and activities for teachers to use in developing the intellectual resources students require to explore the subject matter thoughtfully. The activities are complemented by blackline masters and assessment rubrics.

Critical Challenges in Law and Government
This series of resources supports students in thinking critically about the operations and policies of various levels of government. Students learn about civics in an engaging and meaningful way as they assume the roles of historical and contemporary political leaders in negotiating solutions and enacting legislation. The activities are complemented by extensive blackline masters and assessment rubrics.
This series of resources addresses th "tools" required to think critically about the study of various subject matter. Each title focuses on a different set of concepts and strategies of historical thinking and suggests ways of introducing them and integrating them across historical topics. Teaching examples and blackline masters are included.
This series offers a new approach to teaching history. It recognizes there is no one story for most historical events, but rather differing accounts depending upon whose story is being told.

This collection of resources has been produced by other publishers that promote valuable support for teachers in promoting critical thinking. These "critically acclaimed" resources include teaching ideas, collections of primary resources, and professional readings.
Tools for Thought is a new subscription resource available online starting September 2008. This resource is available electronically to all teachers in a subscribing school. Each issue contains teaching activities and ready-to-use support materials to help Grades 5-10 students become self-regulated critical thinkers. Introduced in the context of a topical social concern, each issue teaches a critical thinking concept and four related literary strategies.
