A Decade of Impact

Nurturing and Sustaining Powerful Professional Learning

For over 10 years, Golden Hills School Division (GHSD) has partnered with The Critical Thinking Consortium (TC²) to go beyond typical onboarding for new teachers. With approximately 10% of teachers being new to the district each year, sustaining a strong professional learning culture remains a priority.

To address this, GHSD learning leaders and instructional coaches collaborate with TC² in three annual professional learning days. These sessions invite new educators to reflect on their instructional approaches and how they align with GHSD’s Powerful Learning approach.

Teachers work with learning coaches and TC² facilitators to examine practical strategies that guide their practice, enhance student learning, and support the district’s vision.

This collaboration has had lasting impacts, and GHSD is now expanding the learning experience to support teachers in their second year with the district.

  • “Very inspiring - will be going back to my class with new ideas and tools.”
  • “It was practical and gave us things we can start implementing immediately. I also feel it actually gave me new strategies as a teacher.”
  • “It was awesome to really break down components of powerful learning and problematizing. I can already think of ways to use these strategies in my classroom.”
