Students analyze transportation options to explore non-monetary methods of quantifying and measuring benefits of ecosystem goods and services (EGS). They compare monetary and non-monetary methods to measure benefits. Finally, students suggest measures for determining the value of EGS portrayed in a sample ecosystem. This lesson is part of the Statistics Canada: Human Activity and the Environment Teacher’s Kit that explores the question, “What is the value of an ecosystem?” It may be used independently or in combination with other teaching and learning activities in the kit. The zipped folder contains a PDF lesson, a PDF image set and a PPT presentation.
